OpenAI said Oct. 20 in its ChatGPT release notes that it is rolling out an upgraded ChatGPT Voice with new voices, along with ChatGPT Slides, PIN-locked chats and a faster GPT-6 Pro.

What's new: ChatGPT Voice now runs on GPT-Live-1.1 and a smaller version, GPT-Live-1.1 Quip, with more natural accents across languages. New Live voices include options for French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Korean and Mexican Spanish, plus a new English voice called Bubbie. ChatGPT Slides lets users build presentations in Space, edit them with teammates in real time, and export to PowerPoint, PDF or Google Slides on the web. Locked chats hide selected conversations from chat history, pinned chats and search, and open with a 4-digit account PIN or supported device authentication. GPT-6 Pro now gives faster responses, makes better use of plugins and tools, and can run multiple agents on parts of a task in parallel.

Why it matters: The voice update changes the model behind ChatGPT Voice and adds voices beyond English. Locked chats give users a way to keep sensitive conversations out of view on a shared screen or device. OpenAI says locking does not add end-to-end encryption or change how long it keeps chats, and resetting a forgotten PIN permanently deletes locked chats.

Who it affects: ChatGPT Voice users; Free, Go, Plus and Pro users for locked chats; Pro, Business and Enterprise users with Space access for Slides; and eligible Pro users for the GPT-6 Pro update.

What's next: All four features are rolling out gradually, and the voices shown may vary by region and account. The same release notes say applications are now open to U.S. university labs for the Rosalind Academic Plan.
