Google brings Gemini with Personal Intelligence to Android Auto and cars with Google built-in

AITechnologyGoogle's Gemini assistant is now available globally on Android Auto and cars with Google built-in, Google said Oct. 20, and drivers can now add Personal Intelligence, which draws on their own Google apps to tailor answers.
What's new: With the user's permission, Personal Intelligence connects Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Photos, Google Maps, YouTube and Search so Gemini can answer spoken requests such as "What's my flight gate? And is my flight on time?" or "Take me to my doctor's appointment." It started rolling out on Android Auto on Oct. 20 and comes to cars with Google built-in in the coming months. Google says apps are not connected until the user turns the feature on, and it can be switched off at any time in Gemini settings. Cars with Google built-in only share personal responses when the driver's phone is connected.
Why it matters: Google presents the update as hands-free help that lets drivers ask multi-part questions in natural speech while keeping their eyes on the road. It also brings email, calendar and photo data into the car, which makes the opt-in controls worth checking.
Who it affects: Android Auto users and drivers of cars with Google built-in who have eligible personal Google accounts and are 18 or older. It is not available for Workspace business, enterprise or education accounts, or in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, the U.K. or Nigeria. Without Personal Intelligence, navigation, music, calls and general questions still work, but answers are not tailored.
What's next: Personal Intelligence reaches cars with Google built-in in the coming months. Users who already turned it on in the Gemini app get it in the car automatically.
