Google Meet adds live speech translation across 63 languages

Google Meet can now translate spoken conversation in real time across 63 languages, Google said Oct. 22.

What's new: Meet listens to each speaker, detects the language automatically and plays a translated version for other participants, using Google's Gemini 3.5 Live Translate technology. Participants no longer need to pick a language pair in advance.

Why it matters: Language is one of the most common barriers in health, care and family meetings. Built-in translation means care teams, families and people supported can talk in the language they are most comfortable with, without booking a separate interpreter for every call.

Who it affects: Google Workspace customers, care coordinators and providers who meet with multilingual families, and anyone who joins Meet calls across language lines.

What to know: Availability depends on Workspace edition; check the Workspace Updates post for the rollout schedule. Automated translation is not a substitute for a qualified medical or legal interpreter where one is required.
