OpenAI and Google Cloud said Oct. 21 that OpenAI's frontier models and Codex workflows are coming to Google Cloud, through Google Cloud's Model Garden.

What's new: In Google Cloud's own announcement, the company said GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna are rolling out in private preview to select enterprise customers. Customers buy the models through Google Cloud Marketplace, usage appears on their Google Cloud invoice, and enterprises can draw down existing Google Cloud spend commitments. Developers can also connect Codex CLI and desktop workflows to Google's platform. OpenAI says its models will soon be available in Google Antigravity and the Gemini Agent.

Why it matters: The deal makes OpenAI models available on Google's cloud alongside Google's own Gemini models. Google Cloud says it is now the only hyperscale cloud provider offering access to all three leading closed source large language models. OpenAI notes that Microsoft remains its primary cloud partner.

Who it affects: Enterprises and developers already building on Google Cloud, including organizations in regulated industries that need Google Cloud's access controls and data governance for sensitive data.

What's next: The preview is invite-only, and customers can request access. OpenAI says general availability is planned in the coming weeks. Google says Zero Data Retention options and Confidential Compute are coming soon.
